Voluntary service in the environmental sector „Freiwilliges Ökologisches Jahr (FÖJ)“

The country estate Landgut Kemper & Schlomski (LGKS) offers you a possibility to gain comprehensive insight into an ecologically working company in agricultural and sector in different projects and fields. The thematic emphasis is placed in the different fields agriculture, biotopes maintenance, landscaping fruit growing, forest management as well as horse breeding with focus on preservation of old domestic animal races. Furthermore, external communication and environmental education within our school forest project are part oft he work.
We offer fascinating and challenging project topics in all these fields – it is up to you – meeting your own talents and interests you can decide about the main focus during your voluntary service yourself. As you will spend much time outside, your work might vary depending on weather and natural growing process. Teamwork is a very important aspect at our estate, but your ideas for planning and realizing own projects are welcome too.
Beside your work at LGKS you will attend several interesting courses on ecologic subjects together with other volunteers from our region. Supporting organisation for our location is „GUENE LIGA Sachsen – FÖJ e. V.“.

FÖJ + Agriculture

In the field of agriculture you will help with all seed, care and harvesting work at 45 ha specious meadows. Ecologic weed control as well as hey and heylage making are periodic tasks. Under supervision of our experts you can learn working with our biotope farming equipment as the two-wheel tractor with gantry forage harvester, rake and round baller.
Furthermore you care for the trees in the meadow orchards. This includes yearly fruit harvest as well as regulatory, formative and yield pruning with special focus on landscaping.

FÖJ + Forestry

The country estate Landgut Kemper & Schlomski (LGKS) cultivates a forest area of nearly 65 ha belonging to the estate according to ecological principles. 4.5 ha of it are used as a school forest within the framework of our education projects. As a volunteer you can support and develop our school project, e. g., by supporting the planning process of excursions as well as accompanying the event itself or you help with the formation of biotopes together with our pupils. Furthermore practical work in the forest such as forest protection monitoring, maintenance of walkways as well as various tasks in cultivation and maintenance of young plants will demand your attention.

FÖJ + Environmental Education

The country estate Landgut Kemper & Schlomski (LGKS) offers various educational possibilities for children, teenagers and families regarding environmental topics. We regularly arrange special excursions or project events guided by experts at schools or directly at the estate. You will support planning and preparation of the events and accompany the event itself where you will learn a lot from our experts.

FÖJ + Animal Preservation

Love of animals and pleasure in caring for animals are basic requirements for this job. Practical experience with horses is advantageous but not generally required. All Fjord horses brought up at LGKS originate from Norway and date back to riding and working horses oft he Vikings. As many other races their number was drastically reduced by mechanisation of agriculture and transport. Since 2007 LGKS is dedicating itself to the preservation of this fascinating ancient domestic animal race.
